Its Friday and only a few more hours to holiday!! Yeay! But for those who will be working for the holidays... do not fret it's still the weekend!
I'd like to share my thoughts about the latest movie hype in Malaysia right now, "OLA BOLA".

Just so I make myself clear, I DISLIKE FOOTBALL! I can not at any moment of time tolerate it. Even to accompany Mr to watch a football game i would gag. Please don't hold this against me. Well my reason in pointing this out is because I shied away from this movie because I thought it was more for a football fan. But oh how wrong was I.
"OLA BOLA" is inspired by a true story. Mainly about the national football team which failed in 1976 to go to the Olympics. So now, in 1980, they are training harder and meaner to achieve that dream. In order to train, the football players have made sacrifices and fought battles (personal battles) to be at where they are now.
So, Mr decided on a late night movie, he choose "OLA BOLA", well I was reluctant at first and half hoping he'd fall asleep! Hahah.. But no, we went on our merry way. The first part of the movie was more on introducing the players and where they come form, their background, a little glimpse on their struggles. Second part of the movie, you will see more depth in their struggle. I would say the main struggle would be the individual itself. The battle between achieving your dream, following your passion in the struggle and pressure even when others or even your loved ones do not encourage it. The pressure could have easily crippled them. But they pushed through! I have to say that feeling hit a little close to home. When I choose to stop practicing Law it took awhile and a truck load of patience to make people I care about understand that I am doing what I am passionate about. This topic will be talked about on another fine day. Back to "OLA BOLA".
This movie portray a strong determination to achieve your goal. Yes, you will hit rock bottom. Yes, you will want to quit because it is super easy to do so. Yes, you feel like you are all alone on your journey and at that point everything else will look so much easier than what you are currently doing. At that point, at that moment, you will need to be your own cheerleader, your own motivation coach. You will need to remind yourself keep the eye on the ball. Because no one will understand your need to achieve more than you. Push forward and you will succeed!

I loved their cinematography by the way! Chiu Keng Guan which directed "The Journey" has captured a beautiful, vibrant and might I say fresh side of Malaysia. You can't help but fall in love with your beautiful country. The patriotism in this movie is not your typical, cliche "saya cintakan negara," (I love my country) but the opportunity to be a representative for your country was taken so seriously, even being a substitute player was an honor. The love towards their country to be apart of the act is enough for you to feel proud. This story actually makes you feel that if YOU or Me in this case, don't work for your country to glory, who will?
The unity in this movie was a higher level of unity if I dare say. I would say brotherly love. Understanding on a different level. Not out of tolerance like just because we stay the same vicinity we just HAVE to live with each other. NO, but pure understanding of each others, culture and difference and looking beyond that, and embracing the difference with one common agenda which is football. Honestly I didn't know that racism can exist in all kinds of form, not your typical skin colour, religion, but also seniority. Don't get me wrong! There was no racism here. Just a passing thought. Because nowdays racism is such a huge deal that you may think it is around us. BUT, this movie reminded me that we Malaysia are not racist, and we HAVE been living with this brotherly love among us. It is beautiful to see that we Malaysian have the opportunity to live in a mulitculture world with so much unity. Despite what horrid news has come about. With so much racists talk that has been feeding our minds. This bond or unity is a breath of fresh air.

One more thing that I got out of this movie was that, fear is your worst enemy. Fear of failing, or fear of disappointment. Fear can cloud the brain and make you give up. How do we overcome fear? With courage. Where do we get courage? Focus on the end result. Knowing that to get your desired result fear will need to be overcome.

I agree with this movie's catch phrase that "YOU WILL BELIEVE" and "IF YOU HAVE A DREAM: you should watch this movie. The Director AND the actors has acted in such sync, that you emotionaly feel for the movie. It is as though you understand the struggle and the pain. Aside from that, his movies will show you the dirty and rough side the journey of achieving your dream, but also shows the beauty when you have succeeded. I am no stranger to feeling drowned by difficulties in achieveing my goals. I would not say I am quite there yet. But I am getting there! For everyone else DON'T GIVE UP! IT WILL ALL BE WORTH IT.
SO GUYS!! GO WATCH OLA BOLA AND BE INSPIRED!!
